Target Trials
in Mental Health
These National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funded projects aim to know how well different digital and talking therapies work in England’s healthcare system. Also, to see if they offer value for money and how well they work for different people.
To do this, we will use data from England’s Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression services. Other data will come from hospitals, secondary mental health services, and pharmacies.
This NIHR Invention for Innovation (i4i) & Office For Life Sciences (OLS) funded project is examining the head-to-head benefits and costs of:
Internet-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based on the SilverCloud Space from Depression platform versus low-intensity individual or group CBT for people with depression
Internet-delivered CBT based on the SilverCloud Space from Anxiety platform versus low-intensity individual or group CBT for people with generalised/unspecified anxiety disorders
We are producing evidence to inform the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence's (NICE's) Early Value Assessment (EVA) process.
This NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) funded project is examining the head-to-head benefits and costs of:
Group versus individual-based low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for depression and anxiety
Low-intensity digitally-enabled interventions (with support) versus therapist-guided self-help for depression and anxiety
CBT versus counselling for depression
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) versus trauma-focussed CBT for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
We intend to inform mental health guidelines for public benefit.
