Implementation Research
Despite the widespread adoption of internet-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (iCBT) within NHS Talking Therapies (TTad) services, digital interventions only account for 3% of first-line low-intensity treatments delivered.
This mixed-methods implementation research aims to explore current iCBT implementation and tailor strategies to support the adoption and spread of iCBT services in routine healthcare services.
Three interlinked research activities will be guided by an Integrated Theory-based Framework for Intervention Tailoring Strategies (the ItFits-toolkit):
Exploring implementation processes: interviews with TTad-services leads (iCBT adopters and non-adopters), focussing on implementation processes (e.g. engagement, vulnerable population access, barriers and facilitators).
Evaluating service implementation: a national survey with TTad-service representatives to evaluate iCBT adoption, implementation and integration.
Tailoring implementation strategies: workshops with stakeholders to co-develop a tailored iCBT implementation blueprint and strategies to be formally costed.
Findings will contribute to a strategic adoption plan for iCBT, addressing implementation challenges and optimising its integration into healthcare services.
